Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information we collect through spencermorleyconsulting.ca and its related domains (including discoverabilityindex.ca), why we collect it, who processes it for us, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain language on purpose.

Who is responsible

Spencer Morley Consulting, based in Edmonton, Alberta, is responsible for the personal information collected through this site. Our privacy officer is Jordan Morley, who can answer questions about this policy at [email protected].

What we collect

Information you send us. When you request a consultation, a free Discoverability Check or a resource, or email us, we receive what you provide: typically your name, organization or business name, city, contact details and your message. We use it to respond and to deliver what you asked for, and for no other purpose without asking.

Call bookings (Calendly). If you book a call, you do it through Calendly, which collects your name, email address and anything you enter so the meeting can be scheduled. Calendly's own privacy notice applies on its booking pages.

Analytics (Google Analytics 4). With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site: pages viewed, approximate location and device type. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off. We look at this data in aggregate and don't use it to identify you.

Advertising (Meta Pixel). With your consent, we use the Meta Pixel to show relevant ads on Facebook and Instagram to people who have visited this site, and to measure whether those ads work. Meta receives the pages you visit and events on this site, such as a form being sent, a button being clicked or a call being booked, each with a short label describing the event.

Technical data. Our web hosting and content delivery providers process technical information for every visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

Consent comes first

Neither Google Analytics nor the Meta Pixel loads until you choose "Accept" on our privacy banner. If you decline, the site works the same and neither tool loads. Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage for up to 12 months, and you can change it at any time.

The banner controls Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel. It does not change the technical processing described above, and Calendly's booking pages have their own cookie notice.

Who processes your information

We use the service providers below. Each may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. Information held outside Canada is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessible to its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities.

  • Formspree receives submissions from our website forms and forwards them to us by email.
  • Calendly handles call bookings.
  • Google provides website analytics, with your consent.
  • Meta provides advertising and ad measurement, with your consent.
  • Google Workspace hosts our business email, where form submissions and emails we receive are kept.
  • Cloudflare delivers and protects the website, and our web host stores it. The site is moving from IONOS to Cloudflare hosting.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your information, ever.
  • We don't share form submissions with third parties for their marketing.
  • We don't collect sensitive categories of information, and we ask you not to include any in form submissions.

How long we keep it

Contact and inquiry records are kept as long as we need them to serve you and meet legal obligations, then deleted. Google Analytics is set to keep user-level and event data for 2 months, the shortest period Google offers. People added to a Meta website audience are removed automatically after no more than 180 days.

Your rights

Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) governs most of what we do. Other Canadian privacy laws can also apply, such as the federal PIPEDA when information crosses provincial or national borders, and Quebec's Law 25 for Quebec residents. You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or withdraw your consent to our use of it, subject to legal or contractual limits. Email [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days.

If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or, where federal law applies, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
